ASSIGNMENT 1 - DECISIVE MOMENT & POSTER ANIMATION

 RESEARCH

We have to look for a relevant article or story about that discusses urban legends for this assignment. The legends could be worldwide or regional. Art deco must be the source of the style. Thus, I started by researching the art deco style, learning about its key elements and figuring out how to incorporate it into my design. Next, I began searching my urban legend, but I focused on local ones rather than global ones because I find it difficult to make decisions when the options are too many.

I have chosen an urban legend from Sarawak who named Janet. She is a young Chinese nurse who went missing and was believed to have been kidnapped. Similar kidnappings were happening in the area, and it was thought that the disappearances were related to ritual killings for the construction of Satok bridge. It was believed that the victim’s heads were embedded in the bridge’s pillars. Janet’s headless body was eventually found and her parents, out of grief, buried her in red clothes, which is believed to make the deceased return as ghosts. Sightings of a woman dressed in red and holding a red umbrella are believed to be Janet’s ghost, began to occur in different locations, including village and near the bridge.
